LINDEN — Did you know that New Jersey has a free-standing hospice facility or that Medicare covers annual hearing tests for seniors? Are you aware that some doctors still make house calls and that in-home companion care is available if need arises?

The Caring, Sharing Network provides this valuable information and more to the senior community. Seniors and caregivers are invited to join them at the Linden Free Public Library, located at 31 East Henry Street, on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 1:00 p.m. for an informative presentation to be followed by refreshments and a question and answer session.

The Caring Sharing Network was started in Fall 2008 by Lois Shanker, from Right at Home. Now celebrating their 80th speaking engagement, the Caring, Sharing Network is a dedicated group of women who represent various service providers in the Union County area.

“We felt there was a real need to educate seniors about the vital services available in their own backyard. Many people wait until a crisis situation arises and then find themselves scrambling to locate the right help and resources. Our objective is to arm seniors with the information they need before an unexpected situation occurs,” said Shanker.

The Caring Sharing Network program includes information regarding home health care, visiting physicians, hearing health care, palliative and hospice care, senior moving and transition as well as regional medical services. They have given presentations to HARP Groups, Senior Community Groups, Knights of Columbus, Retired Men’s Clubs, Women’s Groups, Caregiver Support Groups, Church ad Synagogue Groups all of which have been very well received.

Each speaker has a personal story to tell with the goal of informing seniors about important services of which they otherwise might not be aware. Nancy Rager of Center of Hope Hospice comments “It is very rewarding when seniors come up to us after our presentation and thank us for sharing this vital information with them. They are very appreciative.”

Senior groups, church groups, or caregiver support groups may arrange for a representative from the  Caring, Sharing Network to speak with them by contacting Lois Shanker at 1-908-353-6832 or loiss.rah@gmail.com.
