Catholic High School Admission Test & High School Fair Announced

NEWARK — The COOP Exam is the high school entrance exam used by the Newark Archdiocese for students seeking admission into the ninth grade of a Catholic high school for September 2011.

The exam is given on Nov. 5, however, students should be registered ahead of time to guarantee themselves a seat. Many testing facilities rapidly fill to capacity. Parents should not delay in registering their eighth graders for the exam.  In order to register online, parents should visit Registration materials may also be picked up at any Catholic elementary or high school beginning Sept. 1.

Additionally, the Catholic secondary schools of the Archdiocese of Newark are sponsoring an evening at the Archdiocesan Center, 171 Clifton Avenue, Newark, Sept. 22nd from 7-8:30 p.m., entitled High School Expo. The purpose of the evening is to provide parents and students who are currently in grades seven and eight with information about the Catholic high schools in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties.

This event is conducted in a college fair style. Staff and student representatives from the schools will be on hand to share information, to answer questions and to engage in lively discussion with parents and children.  With so many schools to choose from, this evening affords families an excellent opportunity to see many schools at once.

According to Msgr. Kevin Hanbury, Vicar for Education and Superintendent of Schools, “Finding the right school for your son or daughter is most important to ensuring a successful future for them. Parents shouldn’t put off an important decision until the last minute.  All families are most welcome to join us at this yearly event.”
