ELIZABETH — Members of the Union County Homicide Task Force arrested a Hillside man earlier this morning and charged him with murdering his wife several hours earlier in Elizabeth, according to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Stacey Guillette, 38, was shot several times on Monday evening around 8:30 p.m. near the corner of East Jersey Street and Madison Avenue in Elizabeth. She was transported to Trinitas Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later, said Romankow.
Working quickly and efficiently, investigators with the Task Force were able to identify Ewart Guillette, 31, as a suspect in the murder, said Romankow. Investigators tracked him to a motel in Philadelphia and with the assistance of the Philadelphia Police Department arrested Guillette just after 6 a.m. He was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held in Pennsylvania awaiting extradition to Union County.
Union County Superior Court Judge Scott J. Moynihan ordered Guillette held on $2.5 million bail. He is charged with murder and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.
Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the case to contact Homicide Task Force Detective Michael Manochio at 1-908-527-4645.
