SOMERSET — Ed Begley, Jr., currently one of the hottest speakers on eco-living in America, returns to the Garden State GreenFest in 2010, organizers announced Friday. This year’s event takes place October 1, 2, and 3 at the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset. Begley returns as host for all three days, once again promoting his message to Live Simply So That Others Can Simply Live.

Ted Danson, who shares Begley’s commitment to eco-living and presented at the event in 2008, introduced his friend as his “environmental hero.” Last year, Begley and scientist Bill Nye engaged in a friendly “smackdown” of Whose House is Greener? to the delight of the audience.

A well-known and respected actor with an impressive résumé that includes both television and feature films, Begley stands out as a committed activist. He sets an example by living in a modest, energy-efficient home; driving an electric car long before it became a trend; and often riding his bicycle to Hollywood events. His ultimate do-it-yourself book, “Living Like Ed: A Guide to the Eco-Friendly Life,” received rave reviews for offering practical, green-living guidance.

“The Greenfest event brings together a huge number of sustainable companies, products and consumers. There was a powerful energy and sense of hope for the future that I could really feel. I can’t wait to participate in the 2010 event this year,” says Begley of his participation in the third annual celebration.

Garden State Greenfest 2010 also will include presentations by other leading environmental experts, scientists and personalities, family entertainment and wholesome food and refreshments. Programs at the event cover a vast array of green topics from lifestyle and home and garden to construction, business, energy, and conservation. Kean University is sponsoring the second annual Garden State Green Awards, which will be presented to those individuals and organizations that have made significant efforts toward preservation of the planet.
