Local Residents Join Gilda’s NNJ Newark Satellite Advisory Board

HACKENSACK — Karen Halo of Edison and Leonie Bradford of Iselin were recently appointed to Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey’s Newark Satellite Advisory Board.

Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey is a nonprofit cancer support organization. This newly-established board will develop outreach initiatives and implement various community programs to support a new satellite clubhouse in Newark; the nonprofit’s first facility in an urban setting. The organization recently received a $440,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to aid in this project. A location has not been determined.

“We are thrilled to welcome our new advisory board members and are excited to bring Gilda’s Club and its essential support services to Newark residents,” said Ruth Dugan, board president of Gilda’s Club NNJ. “Our advisory board members are highly-skilled and talented professionals with diverse backgrounds. They will undoubtedly help grow our presence in urban communities and help us reach the underserved.”

Bradford has more than 10 years of nonprofit and corporate experience as an analyst, manager, board member, volunteer and committee chairwoman and has managed more than $25 million in grants. She currently serves on the board for the Fund for Public Health in New York and has previously been a member of the Newark Alliance Board of Trustees and the North Jersey Partners WIRED Committee. She is also a member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Association of Grant Professionals and the Grant Managers Network.

Halo is an innovator, consultant and marketing professional in the sustainability field. She is the owner and operator of New Jersey-based Absolute Green which manufacturers and markets a variety of products with all natural ingredients. Certified in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), Halo is an active campaigner for green causes and has spoken to employees at Johnson & Johnson, Lowe’s, Bloomberg and numerous community groups. She has been on the board of the New Jersey chapter of Industrial Commercial Real Estate Women and the Urban Land Institute and continues to be active with the United States Green Building Council.
