School Board Sued In Substitute Teacher Sex Case

ROSELLE PARK – The family of a teenage girl is suing the Roselle Park school board and school officials, alleging that a board member’s son sexually abused the girl after he served as a substitute teacher at her school.

Nickolas Genovese, son of school board member Michael Genovese, pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal sexual contact in Superior Court in Union County in May. He was sentenced to two years of probation.

The civil suit alleges that Genovese, 20, sent the 15-year-old girl nude pictures and explicit text messages in November and December 2009. The suit also alleges that he sneaked into her family’s home to have sexual relations while her parents slept.

The suit accuses school board members and district employees of engaging in nepotism by hiring Genovese without properly screening him.
