Newark Man Accused Of Shoplifting

LINDEN – Police arrested a 42-year-old Newark man accused of shoplifting and scuffling with an employee of Home Depot on West Edgar Road last week.

Jerry Slaven was arrested and charged with robbery, police said. He was being held on $20,000 bail.

At 10:04 a.m. on Aug. 12, officers responded to the store to investigate a reported fight. Loss prevention personnel told police that the suspect took $147 worth of plumbing supplies and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. A 33-year-old loss prevention employee scuffled with the suspect.

The employee injured his right wrist and hand, according to police. He refused medical attention.
