Elizabeth Rail Station Elevator Out Of Service

ELIZABETH — The elevator serving the outbound (westbound) platform at Elizabeth Station will remain out of service until mid-September due to significant damage to the cab car caused by vandalism.

NJ TRANSIT’s elevator service contractor has determined that the car’s floor and doors are damaged beyond repair and must be replaced. New doors require approximately six weeks for delivery.

Until the elevator is repaired, customers requiring accessible service should consider the following travel options:

Bus Options

NJ TRANSIT No. 62 bus provides frequent service between Elizabeth Station, Newark Airport terminals A-B-C and several NJ TRANSIT rail stations, including Newark Penn, Linden, Rahway, Metropark, Woodbridge and Perth Amboy. All trips operate with lift-equipped buses. See Bus No. 62 timetable for more information.

Rail Options

  • Departing FROM Elizabeth Station traveling outbound (toward Trenton/Long Branch): Board an inbound (eastbound) train to Newark Airport or Newark Penn Station, and then transfer to an outbound train to your destination.
  • Traveling TO Elizabeth Station from points east (e.g. Newark/New York): Remain on the train to Rahway Station, and then transfer to an inbound train to Elizabeth. (The accessible ramps at Linden Station are currently out of service.)
