Temple Announces August Schedule

EDISON – Temple Emanu-El, located at 100 James Street in Edison, has announced its August schedule. All events take place at the temple unless otherwise noted. For more information, call 1-732-549-4442.

August 11 – Each week on Wednesdays, a group gathers for study of the weekly Torah portion with the Lunch n’ Learn program. No prior knowledge is necessary.  Bring your lunch or just an appetite for study.  Dates include August 11, 18, 25 at 12:30 p.m.

August 13 – SHABBAT ALIVE! This evening’s service of song and celebration will again inspire and add joy to all who attend and join the festive presentation that begins at 7 p.m.  Come, get a shaker to accompany the professional musicians, and raise your voice to the heavens.

August 16 – The evening Book Club meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Temple Library.  The group will discuss the “Inn at Lake Divine” by Elinor Lipman.

August 21 – TOT SHABBAT will start at 10:00 a.m.  This is a simultaneous service with the Temple’s regular Saturday morning service.

August  22 – Lifelong Learning will present a film “Keeping Up with the Steins,” a comedy about a family planning a Bar Mitzvah. It may give you some tips for an upcoming event (?) but it will surely provide an evening of fun. There will be refreshments. It’s all free of charge!

Also on this date, join the Greenfaith Initiative with a “Tiyul in Elul” (A walk in the Hebrew month of Elul).  The group will be meeting at 9 a.m. at the Colonial Park Fragrance and Rose Garden, Parking Lot A in Millstone.  Contact the office for more information.  Bring your own sunscreen, water and snacks.

August 27 – Outdoor Shabbat Service and Religious School Open House.  Temple Emanu-El’s “Shabbat Under the Stars” service will take place at 7 p.m., followed by an ice cream oneg.  This is a great opportunity for families looking into Religious school education options to meet Temple members and religious school families, and to ask questions about the educational program.

Note:  If you would like to join for all High Holy Day Services, you may do so for a fee of $200 per adult and $100 per child.  This is a one-time offer (not available to those who participated in prior years) and ticket prices will be applied toward membership if you join the Temple before December 31.

Special tickets are available for Children’s Services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, for children ages 6 through 12 accompanied by an adult, and for the Yizkor and Neilah services on Yom Kippur.  Tot services for children under the age of six will also be open to the community.

In order to aid in continuing to provide programming to the community, the temple is requesting a minimum donation of $36 per person for Yizkor/Neilah tickets and $72 per family for tickets to both Children’s services.  Donations will be accepted during ticket distribution evenings.

To obtain your tickets, bring photo ID to Temple Emanu-El, 100 James Street, Edison, on Monday, August 23 or Tuesday, August 31 between 7 and 8 p.m.
