Volunteer Fire Department Organizes Walk To Benefit Scholarship Program

JEFFERSON – Jefferson Township Fire Company #2 (JTFD #2) will host its first annual Inferno Run / Walk on Saturday, August 21. The day will include the course-certified 5K race, along with a kids Half-Mile Fire Dash, a Tot Trot for children five years and younger, giveaways, an awards ceremony, post-race refreshments, and DJ entertainment.

All proceeds from the event will benefit The Howard Sufian Memorial Scholarship Fund, a scholarship created by JTFD #2 in memory of former chief Howard Sufian. The scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a two- or four-year college / trade education who have achievements in leadership and community service.


Same-day race registration will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and the race will begin at 9 a.m. The run starts and ends at Fireman’s Field, 759 Route 15 South, in Lake Hopatcong, NJ. It continues on Swan Lane, 3 Rivers Drive, Venetian, Valencia Isle Drive, Espanong & 181, Yacht Club Drive, Crescent Drive, Harbor Drive, and Commodore Drive.

Pre-registration prices, up until August 8, are $20 for the 5K and $10 for the one mile walk. After August 8, prices will be $25 for the 5K and $15 for the one-mile walk. Fire Department team registration is open for $45. Teams require three members of the corresponding fire department, and must be pre-registered by August 8. All kids’ races are free and should be registered for on the day of the race. Participants will receive a race t-shirt and goodie bag, while supplies last.
