Initial Unemployment Claims Continue To Decrease

STATE – For the third straight week, New Jersey reported a drop in the number of initial unemployment claims filed.

According to data released by the federal Department of Labor today, 2,937 fewer workers filed initial unemployment claims during the week ending July 24. The state credited the drop to fewer layoffs in the construction, trade, service and manufacturing industries.

New York saw 7,801 fewer initial claims, thanks to decreased layoffs in the construction, service and manufacturing industries. Pennsylvania workers filed 4,149 fewer new claims, credited to fewer layoffs in the transportation and service industries.
