Local Students Earn Advanced Degrees

MADISON– Drew University awarded an advanced degree to the following students at its 142nd commencement on Saturday, May 15:

  • Aarona Cooper of Linden received a Master of Divinity degree
  • Julie Ann Howlett of Clark received a Master of Arts in Teaching degree
  • Lauren Judith McCarthy of Clark received a Master of Letters degree

Remarks were made at the ceremony by American contemporary nonfiction author and financial journalist Michael Lewis and University President Robert Weisbuch.

Quoting baseball legend Yogi Berra, Weisbuch advised graduates that when they “‘come to a fork in the road, [they should] take it.’ Do both, each with a whole heart while aware that a third option is always coming along,” he said.

Michael Lewis is currently a contributing editor to Vanity Fair. He is the author of several bestselling books, including “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine,” “Liar’s Poker” and “Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game.” His 2006 book “The Blind Side: The Evolution of a Game” was released in 2009 as a Hollywood blockbuster film and was an Academy Award nominee for Best Motion Picture of the Year.
