ELIZABETH – Beginning the week of Aug. 2, Union County College will offer a free summer program for young adults. The Career Prep Academy is for 17 to 21 year-old residents of Union County with priority given to those who live in Elizabeth.
Those attending the academy will learn about careers in retail/customer service and other industries such as healthcare and transportation/logistics/distribution; develop work-readiness skills such as communications, problem solving, teamwork, and computer use; connect to ongoing educational and career opportunities; develop a positive attitude toward work and learning; and have fun and make friends. A $5 hourly stipend will be paid to those who successfully complete the coursework.
The Academy will meet for 80 hours in total and will run the weeks of Aug. 2, 9, 16, and 23, from Monday through Thursday. The program will be held in Union County College’s Kellogg Building at 40 West Jersey Street in Elizabeth. Students participating in the program must dress appropriately for a business environment.
To apply for this program, students and their guardians must visit the PROCEED, Inc. Office at 1122 Grand Street in Elizabeth to fill out an application.
The following documentation must also be provided: proof that the applicant is 17 to 21 years of age as of August 2, 2010; birth certificate, driver’s license, US Passport, or other government issued photo ID showing date of birth, proof that they are a U.S. citizen or legal resident, by U.S. Passport, alien registration card, or naturalization document.
