SOUTH AMBOY – Donald J. Applegate has been appointed to fill a vacancy on South Amboy’s City Council created when First Ward Councilman Russell Stillwagon died last month.

The 46-year-old Applegate, who has never held public office before, will serve until after a special election in November. The winner of that race will serve the final two years of Stillwagon’s term.

Applegate was one of three candidates put forward by the South Amboy Democratic Organization to fill the vacant seat. The other candidates were Francis “Butch” Mulvey and Robert Senape.
