Robbery Suspect Arrested In Perth Amboy

PERTH AMBOY – A suspect in a New York City armed robbery was arrested Monday after a Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department officer observed him driving erratically.

Denis Medvedchikov, 23, of Brooklyn, was charged with drug possession and obstruction of justice. He was being held at Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in lieu of $500,000 bail and awaiting extradition to New York as a fugitive on an armed robbery charge, according to the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office.

Director Thomas Farrell of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department observed Medvedchikov driving erratically on Route 1 North in Edison. A license plate check indicated that the vehicle was wanted in connection with a New York City armed robbery, authorities said.

Medvedchikov was stopped on Route 440 in Perth Amboy near the Outerbridge and was taken into custody, authorities said. According to the sheriff’s office, Medvedchikov initially gave a false identification. When searching the vehicle, officer recovered marijuana and an assortment of prescription drugs, authorities said.
