LINDEN – Last week, a pair of teens robbed a convenience store on East Elizabeth Avenue at knifepoint, according to police.
On Tuesday, July 13, at 1:22 p.m., officers responded to a reported robbery at the HSB Convenience store on the 700 block of East Elizabeth Avenue. The store owner, a 44-year-old Iselin man, told police that he had been robbed by two teenagers brandishing knives.
The suspects, two dark-skinned men between the ages of 17 and 19, entered the store wearing black t-shirts, black caps and black bandannas covering their faces. They forced their way behind the counter and took approximately $600 from the cash register, as well as several cartons of Newport cigarettes and some loose cigars before leaving on foot, the victim told police.
A witness saw the suspects fleeing the store and running behind a house on the 700 block of Essex Avenue before getting into a vehicle and leaving the area, police said. Detectives recovered a knife, a black ball cap and some loose change behind the house. Police also recovered a black bandana and an empty cigar box at a nearby intersection, officials said.
The store owner was not injured during the robbery, police said.
Detectives were reviewing video surveillance footage as part of the continuing investigation last week. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the robbery to contact Det. John Johnston at 1-908-474-8550 or email email@example.com.
