STATE – New Jersey initial unemployment claims increased by 6,167 for the week ending July 3, according to data released by the federal Department of Labor today. State officials blamed the job losses on layoffs in the trade, service, and manufacturing industries.
New York saw a larger increase in new jobless claims – 8,066. Officials blamed layoffs in the service and transportation industries. Pennsylvania and Connecticut both saw decreases in new claims, by 1,047 and 1,261 respectively.
