Golfers Raise $100,000 For Children’s Specialized Hospital

MOUNTAINSIDE–Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation hosted the 21st annual Golf Classic on Monday, June 7, at Montclair Golf Club in West Orange. Over 150 golfers and donors showed their support by raising $100,000 for Children’s Specialized Hospital, a non-profit pediatric rehabilitation hospital that has been serving children with special needs for over 120 years. In 2009 alone, Children’s Specialized Hospital treated 17,000 children affected by brain injury, spinal cord injury, premature birth, autism, developmental delays, and life-changing illnesses.

The proceeds from this year’s golf outing will help fund equipment to expand communications and training across Children’s Specialized Hospital’s eight sites in the state. The Golf Classic included a brunch, 18 holes of golf, cocktails and dinner. Golf prizes were awarded. There were also an auction, raffle and on-course games.

Chairman John Moore, of Willis, says the Classic is an important event for businesses to support.

“We have a terrific turnout every year and are very grateful to our sponsors,” says Moore, a Cranford resident who has served on the committee for several years. Moore is joined by his co-chairman, Nicholas Boccella, of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.

“The Classic is a great way to give back to your community and spend a day with like-minded business leaders,” said Boccella.

This year’s sponsors include Chubb, Qualcare, Beacon Trust, TD Bank, Willis, and C.R. Bard. Model Team, LLC of Ocean Grove provided several volunteers for the day’s activities. Members of the Classic committee include Dominic DiGiorgio, Merck; Ken Gilmore, Financial Consultant Group; Barry Gross, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney; Katie Julian, Marriott; George Lazo, Marriott; Joseph Leone, Pinnacle Benefits Group; Roy Lundgren, Telstra; Nick Pelliccione, Ph.D., Aeterna Zentaris, Inc.; Jim O’Connor, Cbiz EAO Benefits; Ed Giaquinto, Toys R’ Us; Hal Cohen, Logicalis; John Palmieri; and Paul Taeschler, Paul Taeschler Agency. Philip Salerno III and Alexander R. Giaquinto, Ph.D., serve ex officio.

The Foundation will host another golf event, the Golf Invitational, Tuesday, July 20 at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood. Registration and sponsorship opportunities are available.
