NEW BRUNSWICK — An Edison High School teacher was placed on probation for three years for having sexual relations with a 17-year-old female student last year, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan announced.
Anthony Iazzetta, 27, of the Fords section of Woodbridge also was banned from teaching and was prohibited from having any contact with the victim.
Iazzetta, who taught mathematics at Edison High School, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves during a hearing on July 9 at the Middlesex County Courthouse in New Brunswick.
The sentence was imposed after Iazzetta pleaded guilty on May 14 to a count of child abuse, admitting he had sexual relations with the female. The female was not one of Iazzetta’s students.
Iazzetta was arrested at his home on June 15, 2009, following an investigation by Detective Sean Forker of the Edison Police Department and Investigator Daniel Ruschak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Iazzetta was charged after the investigation determined he had sexual relations with the female in Fords on June 14, 2009.
Police were alerted by school authorities, who learned about the incident the following day.
Iazzetta began working for the township in September 2008.
