New Unemployment Claims On The Rise

WASHINGTON, D.C. – New unemployment claims are on the rise, according to data released today by the federal Department of Labor.

In the week ending June 26, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 472,000, an increase of 13,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 459,000. The four-week moving average was 466,500, an increase of 3,250 from the previous week’s revised average of 463,250.


The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending June 19 were in Pennsylvania (+3,460), New Jersey (+1,708), Iowa (+1,494), Maryland (+1,404), and Michigan (+1,251).

New Jersey officials blamed the increase on layoffs in the transportation, warehousing, service, and manufacturing industries.
