Man Arrested For Practicing Illegal Dentistry In Elizabeth

Jairo Camacho

ELIZABETH — Police arrested a Colombian native last week and charged him with running an illegal dentistry practice out of an apartment in Elizabeth, according to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Jairo Camacho, 40, was arrested on June 24 at 821 Jersey Avenue in Elizabeth, the same place he was allegedly treating patients illegally, Romankow said. An investigation was launched last week after officers discovered the alleged illegal practice while serving an arrest warrant – for an unrelated case – at the address.

It is believed that Camacho was running the illegal practice for upwards of two years and was equipped with all the necessary equipment and prescription drugs commonly found in a legitimate dental practice, said Romankow.

Camacho is charged with third degree practicing dentistry without a license and possession of prescription drugs. He is being held at the Union County Jail on $50,000 bail.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to contact Prosecutor’s Office Detective Johnny Ho at 1-908-527-4551.
