Conservative Activist Criticizes Christie Budget

Steve Lonegan speaks to a crowd of residents at the Rahway American Legion Post 5 Hall on Thursday, June 24.

RAHWAY–Conservative activist Steve Lonegan visited Rahway last week to talk about New Jersey’s state budget for the upcoming fiscal year. About 90 people attended the American Legion Hall to hear the head of the New Jersey chapter of Americans for Prosperity

Patrick Cassio, the city’s Republican candidate for mayor, introduced Lonegan and called him “a true friend of the taxpayer in cities like Rahway.”

Lonegan blamed Republican Gov. Chris Christie’s budget for hurting suburban areas and not cutting enough aid in Abbott districts. He specifically mentioned Hoboken, where he said residents have a much higher income than Rahway. Lonegan also praised two Republican state Senators, Jennifer Beck and Michael Doherty, for standing up against new fees and taxes in this budget.
