RAHWAY – Registration is open for one week of Summer Theatre Camp at the Union County Performing Arts Center; offering local students the opportunity to experience the excitement of theatre. Children’s Stage Adventures offers a unique experience for students to participate in the production of a live musical performance.
This summer, from Monday, July 19 through Friday, July 23, approximately 50 local students will be cast in Children’s Stage Adventures’ musical production of Oliver Twist, sponsored in part by Merck Company Foundation.
The CSA team will arrive in town with everything it takes to put on a play. On Monday morning, July 19, the team will hold an audition workshop at the Union County Performing Arts Center to cast pre-registered students to perform in the musical production of Oliver Twist. The audition will give CSA participants an opportunity to put their “best foot forward” and places more emphasis on spirit, attitude and participation than talent. Nothing needs to be prepared for this workshop.
Children’s Stage Adventures’ Oliver Twist is an original musical adaptation of the classic Dickens’ tale of the orphaned boy whose good and sturdy spirit support him through the difficult and exciting times of growing up in Victorian England. Enjoy all the fascinating characters involved in Oliver’s life: the Artful Dodger, Fagin, the menacing Bill Sikes, and the kind hearted Nancy. The story follows Oliver from the miseries of the workhouse to the dangerous streets of London where he becomes involved in a plot containing mystery, robbery, and kidnapping. All is resolved when Oliver’s true identity is discovered and he finds a home and happiness with his Great Uncle, Mr. Brownlow.
The show is rehearsed throughout the week. Rehearsals will be conducted from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. every day of the week prior to performances. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week, and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals for their role. A detailed schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of auditions.
At the end of the week, as if by magic, a high-quality musical production of this classic tale will be performed by approximately 50 local students; complete with professionally designed scenery and costumes, props and makeup, and sound and lighting equipment.
