New Cookbook Reveals How Mealtime Isn’t Just About Food

WEST CALDWELL – “It’s Never Just the Food…: Recipes, Memories and Funny Stories of My Grandmother and Me” by actor and screenwriter Gregory Gallerano seeks to serve up an autobiographical cookbook of more than 40 Italian recipes, as well as family anecdotes from Gallerano’s childhood.

Throughout the 16 chapters of “It’s Never Just the Food …”, Gallerano swaps comedic stories and recipes of his grandmother’s best dishes, such as zucchini parmigiana, meat and spinach ravioli, manicotti with Bolognese sauce, creamy wild mushroom risotto, and an assortment of cookies and pies. Gallerano also provides low-fat alternatives.

Gallerano shares how the food in these family meals, and the people who made them, were the centerpiece of any life event while growing up – from confirmations to celebrations to funerals – and just seemed to make anything more special.

“In today’s world, sitting down for a family dinner every so often might be what makes all the difference because it really isn’t about the food,” says Gallerano, “it’s about the loved ones we are able to share it with.”

“It’s Never Just the Food: Recipes, Memories and Funny Stories of My Grandmother and Me” is available for sale online at and other channels.
