Linden Man Charged With Aggravated Assault

LINDEN – Police arrested two men on Tuesday night after investigating a report of shots fired on the 700 block of Allen Street, authorities said.

Taj C. Williams, 31, of Linden was charged with aggravated assault, various weapons charges and possession of marijuana, police said. Christopher M. Rizer, 32, of Roselle was charged with hindering apprehension for allegedly lying to the officers about his accomplice’s whereabouts.

On June 8 at 8:27 p.m., police investigated the report of shots fired. Officers were told that two men fled on foot towards East Edgar Road. Police caught up with one suspect, Rizer, and detained him.

The second suspect got away from the officers, but was later apprehended after a brief foot chase by Officers Pete Hammer and Joseph Rivera, police said.

The 18-year-old victim told police that he had been arguing with the suspects over a pack of cigarettes when Williams pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired a shot into the ground, authorities said. No one was injured, according to police. The handgun was not recovered, and police are continuing to investigate.

Bail was set at $90,000 for Williams and $15,000 for Rizer, authorities said.
