UNION COUNTY – Democrats and Republicans will head to the polls on Tuesday to choose their party’s candidates for November’s general election. In most years, the process is a formality – candidates who receive the support of the regular political organization rarely face primary opposition.
In this year’s Democratic Primary, a slate of 24 Democrats For Change are challenging the regular political candidates for sheriff, county clerk, the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and numerous local offices.
Republicans also have contested primaries for Congress, with conservatives challenging the candidates supported by the regular political organization.
