Linden School Searches For Top Readers

LINDEN — Linden School No. 1 is holding a competition to find new reading talent, designed after popular reality shows like American Idol. Teacher Lindsay Guerriero and reading coaches Judy Gahr and Patty Kowalski created the concept.

A panel of judges who critique the contestants’ performances included the principal, teachers and School No. 1 families filled the audience.

The students were given a selection of poems to practice during reading sessions and at home. The students were judged on accuracy, smoothness, and expression. Approximately 26 students walked down a “red carpet” to perform in front of family members and other peers.

First place went to Jessica Moreno (the host of the show), second place went to Jesse Valenzuela, and third went to Courtney Theodule.
