CLARK — St. Agnes Middle School students spent the month of May preparing to follow the yellow brick road. With the guidance and instruction of music teacher, Tom Nichuck, middle school teacher Jane Burns and her daughter Colleen Burns, they put on a spectacular production.
They infused the All-American classic with a few contemporary songs by Cyndi Lauper and Michael Jackson to give the production a modern feel. The students’ enthusiasm and hard work made the full-scale performance a hit for the entire student body, teachers, family and parents.
Students created scenery, props and many costumes from scratch and brought their characters to life. The fourth grade students provided chorus, fifth grade girls were the Lullaby League, and fifth grade boys performed a jitterbug.
The main characters were performed by Danielle Winter as Dorothy, Jacqueline Behrend as the Wicked Witch, Cristina Bonner as the scarecrow, Ethan Shepherd as the Tin Man Taylor Cerwinski as the Good Witch and Richie Vigliotti as the Cowardly Lion.
