HAGERSTOWN, MD – The BlueClaws mounted yet another ninth inning comeback Wednesday night, scoring four runs in the ninth to stun Hagerstown 5-3.
The Suns took a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning after Claws starter Brody Colvin walked the bases loaded with one out. Eric Massingham came in out of the pen and gave up a two- run double to Justin Bloxom and an RBI single to J.P. Ramirez to give the Suns a three run edge.
Lakewood cut into the lead in the eighth. With runners on second and third with one out, Jonathan Singleton hit a sac fly to cut the deficit to two. That would set the stage for yet another big comeback for the cardiac Claws.
Sebastian Valle started the inning with a leadoff walk against Suns reliever Taylor Jordan, and Anthony Hewitt singled to put the tying run on base. With one out Jiwan James singled home Valle to make it 3-2, and Jonathan Villar was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Adam Buschini took full advantage of the opportunity and tripled home three runs, getting tagged out at home trying for an inside the park grand slam. With one swing the BlueClaws had taken a 5-3 lead in the ninth.
Jordan Ellis (S, 3) pitched a perfect ninth to seal the win.
Brody Colvin pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two hits and three runs. He also walked four and struck out five.
With Hickory’s 5-4 loss to Charleston, the BlueClaws are now just two games out of first in the SAL North, and are a season- high eight games over .500.
