CHERRY HILL – This year 96 girls from the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern NJ have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a girl can earn in Girl Scouting.

A girl who earns the Girl Scout Gold Award completes components that help her build skills in leadership, communication, time management, teamwork, dedication, responsibility, goal setting and commitment. She then combines all of the skills that she has gained through this process to create and implement a 65-hour project that makes a difference in her community.

Girls choose projects based on an issue they feel passionately about and take action to make a positive impact on the world.  Some of the projects for the 2010 year included the creation of a fitness and healthy living summer camp for children, working to provide adults and children with disabilities resources and tools for mobility, creation of engineering programs for kids, a “no bullying” program that gave kids tactics to combat bullying in their schools and many more wonderful demonstrations of girls achieving their visions for a better community.

Girl Scout Gold Award recipients will be honored at a ceremony on Sunday, June 6, at The College of New Jersey in Ewing.
