From Robert E. Purdue, Jr.: “Now that my book, Behind the Lines in Greece –The Story of OSS Operational Group II, is in print I want to thank you again for your assistance.
“Almost all of the OG II men were deceased and I was interested in locating descendants who might relate something about their father’s experience. But more important, long after the War, the Defense Department authorized medals (Bronze Star with V for valor) to each. Someone had to locate the men or their descendants and I undertook that assignment.”
The following is from my book: “An Internet search for each name provided just one ‘hit’. For her 2007 Memorial Day column in the Atom Tabloid, a Perth Amboy, NJ, weekly newspaper, Diane Norek Harrison included names of all New Jersey soldiers lost in World War II, Among them was Michalis Tsirmulas, the only OG II member killed in action. Since there were three other OG II members from New Jersey, (Bernard F. Brady, Demetrius Frangas and Peter M. Moshopoulos), I asked Ms. Harrison to do a column on Operational Group II. She included the story in her May 21, 2008 column, Remembering the Past: Memorial Day Memories. A relative of Dennis Moshopoulos, son of Peter, saw the column and called it to his attention. One more off the list.”
