ELIZABETH – The Labor Department recently partnered with the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ), the New Jersey Community College Consortium (NJCCC), and Workforce Solutions of America (WSA) to provide basic skills training for employees of businesses throughout the state that are members of SHCCNJ.
This training will be provided at Union County College’s Elizabeth Campus in its Kellogg Building or at the Retail Skills Center at the Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth throughout the month of June. The training will be provided at no charge for the SHCCNJ members, however, employees participating in the classes must be paid their regular hourly rate while in the training.
The training will be provided in Microsoft Excel, Word and Windows. Classes will be provided to enhance one’s verbal and written communication skills. Those who need to learn English, English as a second language courses will also be offered.
The following classes will be held in the college’s Kellogg Building at 40 West Jersey Street: “PC Windows” from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on June 1, 9, and 24, 2010; “PC Excel” from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on June 3 and 15, 2010; and “PC Word” from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on June 8 and 17, 2010.
The following classes will be held at the Retail Skills Center, Jersey Gardens Mall at 651 Kapkowski Road: “English as a Second Language” will be held Monday through Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. or from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. beginning on June 1 and ending on June 28; “Communication: Verbal” will be held on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from June 2 to June 30, 2010; and “Communication: Written” will be held on Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. from June 2 to June 30, 2010.
If needed, training can be scheduled at your company site. All companies that are members of SHCCNJ are automatically eligible to participate in these programs. For companies that are not members, but are interested in hosting the training classes, call (609) 503-5820 or e-mail SHCCNJ@att.net. Municipal employees (city, county, state, or federal) and schools and colleges are not eligible for this training program.
