TRENTON- The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced the I-287 northbound ramp to Easton Avenue will be closed to traffic after the peak travel period on Tuesday, June 1. The ramp closure is anticipated to last for approximately four weeks and will be re-opened to traffic before the July 4th holiday weekend.
I-287 northbound traffic heading to Easton Avenue (CR 527) will be detoured to Exit 13B for Union Avenue, use the interchange to make a U-Turn to I-287 southbound to Exit 10 for Easton Avenue.
The ramp closure is associated with an ongoing $29 million roadway rehabilitation project that will provide motorist safety improvements over approximately seven miles of I-287 between Stelton Road in Piscataway, Middlesex County and Main Street in Franklin Township, Somerset County. This work will extend the lifespan of the roadway by more than 15 years and the new bridge decks by 50 years.
The project began in August 2009 and is expected to be substantially completed by the end of 2011.
Variable message signs will notify motorists of any upcoming traffic pattern changes. NJDOT provides emergency roadway information, construction schedule updates and real time traffic information and images at www.nj511.info
