EDISON — Shruti Nadkarni of Edison, a sophomore at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in North Edison, organized an arts and crafts workshop for children attending the 20th Annual Edison Family Day at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center at Raritan Center in Edison on May 16.

Nadkarni has run this workshop every year in conjunction with the Hands of Hope organization at St. James Episcopal Church in Edison. All of the voluntary donations to participate in the workshop will benefit Hands of Hope, which runs a food pantry and soup kitchen throughout the year for needy families. An active volunteer with Hands of Hope, Nadkarni collected over 600 cans for the organization’s food pantry during the summer of 2008. That year, she earned her Girl Scout Silver Award by creating and painting playground games at a local elementary school. She is also a volunteer at the Parker Nursing Home in Highland Park.
