GREENSBORO, NC – The BlueClaws were one strike away from victory twice Tuesday night, but two devastating errors cost them the game, 7-6.

Josh Zeid (BS, 2) (2-1) came into the ninth protecting a 6-5 lead and picked up two quick outs before running into trouble. Justin Hickman doubled, and scored on a Jonathan Villar error to tie the game.

Kyle Skipworth then singled to put the winning run on third, however Kyle Jensen popped up for what should have been the third out. Instead Adam Buschini dropped the ball, and the Hoppers won 7-6.

Erick Carrillo (1-3) allowed three runs in seven innings out of the bullpen in relief of starter Chad James for his first win of the 2010 season.

Starter Brody Colvin was terrific for the BlueClaws (21- 17). After giving up seven hits in just 1.2 innings in his last start, but held Greensboro (17-21) to six in six innings Tuesday. He also struck out five and shut down the Hoppers (0-for-5) with runners in scoring position.

Lakewood jumped all over Chad James, the #3 prospect in the Marlins system according to Baseball America to build an early lead.

James only lasted two innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Four of those hits came in the first inning.

Jiwan James led off the game with a base hit, then took second on an error. After stealing third Jonathan Villar extended his hit streak to 11 games and brought in James to make it 1-0. Villar then stole second, and Jonathan Singleton singled to make it 2-0.

In the second, Villar walked and stole second, then scored on a Leandro Castro single to give the Claws a three run lead.

Lakewood added two more runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Alan Schoenberger and Singleton, and Adam Bushini tacked on an insurance run with a solo home run in the eighth to make it 6-2 BlueClaws.

Singleton is now batting .350 with five RBIs in his five games as a BlueClaw, along with two homers.

Greensboro cut into the lead in the bottom of the eighth, scoring three runs and getting the tying tally to third with one out. However the Hoppers squeeze play failed when Michael Pasek whiffed on the bunt attempt, enabling Sebastian Valle to tag out the runner at home.

Wednesday Lakewood will play a doubleheader starting at noon. Matt Way (2-3, 5.26) faces Jose Alvarez (2-1, 4.63) in game one, with Colby Shreve (2- 0, 1.50) taking on Edgar Olmos (2-1, 4.06) in game two.

ClawsNotes: The BlueClaws will return home on Thursday to open an eight-game homestand. West Virginia (Pirates) comes to Lakewood for the first time, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm.
