Benedictine Academy Presents Sports Awards

ELIZABETH — Benedictine Academy in Elizabeth held its annual “Sports Awards Night” on May 13 at the all-female Catholic college prep high school. Players from the school’s sports teams were recognized for their many talents and contributions during this past academic year.

The “Athlete of the Year” Award went to senior Amanda Boykins for her accomplishments as a member of the Benedictine Academy track team. The track team won first place in the NJ Catholic Track Conference Championship Meet, second place in the Union County Relays, and third place in the state Non-Public Championships. Boykins, a resident of Irvington, was chosen as the senior Scholar-Athlete who best exemplifies the mission and beliefs of the Academy, performs at high athletic standards, and demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship.

Five students received awards for “Most Valuable Player”: Boykins for Track; Cynthia Amaya of Hillside for soccer; Stephanie Vaz of Newark for softball; Chisom Emeana of Hillside for volleyball; and Haneah Jackson of Hillside for basketball.
