ELIZABETH –An Elizabeth man was sentenced to three years in state prison last week after he was convicted of an aggravated assault stemming from a 2008 incident where he severely injured his sister during a fight, according to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Eduardo Perez, 26, was convicted on third degree aggravated assault in March, said Assistant Prosecutor Joshua McMahon, who prosecuted the case.
According to the investigation, on Aug. 22, 2008, Perez and his younger sister got into an argument about bail money.
Perez’s sister had signed for his bail in an earlier case and when she asked to be repaid Perez, a confirmed member of the Bloods street gang, brutally beat his sister. The victim was able to run from her apartment and called 911. She was treated for her injuries. Perez eluded authorities for several months until his capture, said McMahon.
