Rahway Memorial Day Activities Planned

RAHWAY – The city’s annual Memorial Day parade is planned for May 30, but there will be a number of other activities during the month to honor our fallen soldiers.

The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the City Hall complex and proceed west on Milton Avenue, north on Pierpont Street, east on Elm Avenue, north on Irving Street, and south on Main Street. When it passes the reviewing stand at City Hall, it will disperse. Local government officials, school bands and veterans and civic groups will march in the parade.

Retired firefighter Al Knox is the parade grand marshal. Knox is a veteran of the 1958 Lebanon War “Operation Blue Bat”, serving as a corporal in the 2nd Division, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines.

At 7 p.m. on May 30, the Rahway Veteran’s Central Committee will conduct their remembrance service at the invitation of Rev. Margay Jo Whitlock, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, 215 Elm Avenue.

American Legion Post 5, Catholic War Veterans Post 361, Mulvey Ditmars Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 681 and Rahway Girl Scouts will decorate the graves of veterans at Rahway cemeteries during two weekends this month.
