Wardlaw-Hartridge Students Earn Recognition For National Spanish Exam Scores

EDISON – Linda Kouril and Yolanda Reyes, Upper School Spanish teachers at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in North Edison, have announced that students in grades 7 through 12 have earned national recognition for excellent performance on the 2010 National Spanish Exam.

The National Spanish Examinations are standardized assessment tools given voluntarily by over 3,400 teachers throughout the United States to measure proficiency and achievement of students who are studying Spanish as a second language.

Gold medals or Premio de Oro were earned by Saheela Ibraheem of Piscataway, Aneesa Sonawalla of Edison, and Amber Zafar of Edison.

Silver medals or Premio de Plata were distributed to Raymond Iglesias of Union, Ernest Afflu of Edison, Kush Mody of Edison, Samantha Hart of Edison, Shafeeq Ibraheem of Piscataway, Zubin Mulji of Edison, and Briana Crawley of Rahway.

Bronze medals or Premio de Bronce were earned by Ruchita Parekh of Colonia, Juan Ignacio of Union, Adina Pearlman of East Brunswick, Ryan Iglesias of Union, and Mia Hagood of Piscataway.

Honorable Mention or Premio de Excelencia distinction has been awarded to Christopher Gray of Carteret, Devi Mody of Edison, Roshi Mehta of Edison, Pam Yulo of Piscataway, Micaela Lyons of Plainfield, Billy Buchbinder of Scotch Plains, Amanda Birbal of Plainfield, Saba Zafar of Edison, Jonathan Belfer of Scotch Plains, Sharon Afflu of Edison, Daniel Moran of Piscataway, Pranali Soni of Edison, Ashni Mehta of Piscataway, Michael Anastasiou of Scotch Plains, Tarini Salvaji of Edison, Emily Wexler of Scotch Plains, Julian Hernandez-Webster of Edison, Julia Linger of Cranford, and Daniel Spear of Bridgewater.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with 125,915 students participating in 2010.”
