“…lyrically speaking…”

As some of you know, I have been working on an album now for, oh, since before the psalms of the Bible were written, and my plan was, (I thought), a unique one…simply voice, no musicians (not that I have anything against musicians…trust me…)

But, this would be an album to really ‘listen’ to…to hear the lyrics that the Holy Spirit expresses through the songs…

[smartads]

And not exactly ‘a cappella’ either…that term itself usually expresses many voices, perhaps with even a doo-wop quality to them (which, I also have nothing against…but I digress…)

But what this whole ramble is leading up to is the new Maura O’Connell album, “Naked With Friends”…all voice, no musicians…and, it is perfect…

And, if you ever heard any of her other many albums, which all feature musicians, you know how wonderful she is…

But knowing the amazingly angelic voice of Maura, along with friends like Paul Brady and Mary Black, you can already hear how beautiful this will sound (I certainly can, because I’m listening to it as I write)…

With a mix of new songs, as well as traditional Irish tunes, the lyrics, and their meanings, come through clearer than if they were accompanied by drum and guitar, which is indeed appropriate, since the songs chosen have such significance to them….

And it’s also appropriate that it does make me think of David and his psalms (from the Bible)…

The psalms were his songs, sung so that God would hear his significance clearly…simply voice, no musicians…

…with not just a beat, but a heart as well…
