May 4 at 3:55 p.m. – Officers Gary Hickman and Pete Kozak arrested Javier Romero, 37, and Victor Romero, 38, both of Elizabeth, for shoplifting from Home Depot, 701 West Edgar Road. The suspects fled the store after allegedly stealing merchandise valued at $254.82 and were apprehended at West Stimpson Avenue and Jefferson Avenue. Javier Romero was held on $2,500 bail, which included an Elizabeth contempt warrant. Victor Romero was released on a summons.

May 4 at 4 p.m. – Police arrested Rosemarie Gonzalez Rodriguez, 49, of Union Beach, NJ, after a three-month investigation by Detective Alvaro Goncalves. Rodriguez was charged with fraudulently collecting $175,000 in Social Security and pension benefits for Michael Leone, who had died in 2004. She was being held at Union County Jail on $95,000 bail pending a court appearance.

May 5 at 10:19 p.m. – Linden police investigated a shoplifting report at Shop-Rite, 637 West Edgar Road. Store staff detained Carlos Manuel Helly, 31, of Elizabeth on suspicion of shoplifting merchandise valued at $20.68. Police arrested Helly on a warrant issued by the Fort Bend County, Texas, Sheriff’s Department for failure to appear on a felony marijuana possession charge. Helly was taken to Union County Jail pending extradition to Texas. Shop-Rite loss prevention decided not to sign a complaint for the shoplifting charge.
