NEWARK – The Newark Bears defeated the York Revolution 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.

The Bears looked to snap a four-game skid, but York cracked the scoreboard first and took a 1-0 lead off Bubba O’Donnell in his first start as a Bear. John-Ford Griffin blasted his third homer of the season with one out in the second to tie the game. With two on and two-out, Kennard Jones ripped a RBI double to make it 2-1 Newark. Griffin plated his second RBI in his next trip to the plate in the third, blasting a triple off the top of the right-field wall to score Fernando Seguignol and give the Bears a 3-1 lead.

O’Donnell frustrated York as he didn’t allow a hit in his final three innings of work and set down seven-in-a-row. O’Donnell went six strong for the Bears, allowing just one run on three hits, with six strikeouts. He did not factor in the decision.

York chipped away at the Bears lead in the eighth as Jamar Hiill led-off the frame with a double and came home on Salomon Manriquez two-bagger. The Revs took their second lead of the game in the eighth as they scored three runs on four straight two-out hits against Joe Winkelsas and led it 5-3.

The Bears though didn’t back down in the home half of the frame. After Jones drew a two-out walk to load the bases, Daryle Ward lined a two-run single into right field to tie the game at 5. Jones came home as Seguignol grounded one through the left side and it was 6-5 Newark.

Winkelsas (1-0) earned the win, despite allowing three runs on four hits, with a strikeout in an inning of work. Michael Nix earned his second save of the season allowing just one hit in the ninth. Sean Stidfole (0-1) suffered the loss, tossing one and two-third innings, allowing three runs on two hits, with two strikeouts and two walks.
