PERTH AMBOY — A Perth Amboy man has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a teenage male and attempting to improperly touch another teenage male, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Acting Perth Amboy Police Chief E.J. McDonald announced today.
Edwin Soto, 55, was arrested at his home on April 30 and was charged with sexual assault, attempted criminal sexual contact and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child according to authorities.
Soto is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick in lieu of $100,000 bail, authorities said. He must post the full amount before he can be released from custody.
Soto was arrested and charged following an investigation by Detective Peter Boulieris of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Investigator James Kelly of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Soto allegedly sexually assaulted one of the teenagers on a number of occasions between January 2005, and January 2007, and, in a separate incident, allegedly attempted to improperly touch the other teenager on one occasion sometime in January 2009. Most of the alleged incidents occurred at the defendant’s home, according to authorities.
Police began the investigation after one of the teenagers told school officials, who contacted police.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on this or similar incidents to call Detective Boulieris at (732) 442-4400, or Investigator Kelly at (732) 745-3600.
