Students Invited To Design Logo For Dismal Swamp Conservation Area

MIDDLESEX COUNTY – The Dismal Swamp Preservation Commission is seeking the input of local youth to design a logo for the conservation area known as the Dismal Swamp. Students in grades seven through 12 attending public, private, parochial or home-schools in South Plainfield, Metuchen and Edison are eligible to enter.

The artwork must incorporate one or more of the primary focuses of the commission: protecting and preserving the ecological, historical and recreational values of the Dismal Swamp. Artwork must also incorporate the wording “Dismal Swamp Conservation Area.”

Entries will be judged on contest theme, creativity and artistic merit. The winner will be announced at the commission meeting in the council chambers of the Borough of South Plainfield on Tuesday, June 1 at 7 p.m. All entries will become the property of the commission, and must be received by 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 21. The winner will receive a $50 cash prize and all entrants will receive a certificate of appreciation.

Participating schools will collect the entries of their students. Home school students should deliver their artwork to the Recycling Coordinator’s Office at South Plainfield’s Borough Hall, 2480 Plainfield Avenue.
