RAHWAY – They could be spending time playing cards or golf, but instead they choose to help others. To thank them for their volunteerism, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway held a special luncheon for volunteers of long-standing on April 19.

Left Dorothy Ayres of Linden, who volunteers as a greeter, was honored for 5,000 hours of service. Honored for 2,000 hours of service were Rahway residents Constance Haefner, Nancy Stratton, Audrey Walton and Linden resident Barbara O’Halloran, who, among many other duties, wraps birthday gifts for those who spend their birthdays in the hospital. Haefner volunteers in the evenings, playing games of “Name That Tune” with patients, while Stratton volunteers in Same-Day Surgery. Walton works in the Volunteer Services Office.

The luncheon was part of the National Volunteer Week celebration. Scores of the hospital’s volunteers were honored at a luncheon at the Colonia Country Club on April 22 in which volunteers of more than 10,000 hours of service were honored.
