PERTH AMBOY— Mayor Wilda Diaz and the Department of Public Works along with the Royal Garden Club and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be hosting Earth Day 2010 at Washington Park on Saturday, April 24, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The children of Perth Amboy are invited to take part in a hands-on project, planting flowers and beautifying Washington Park as they learn how to take care of their environment. Information on recycling, Clean Communities, gardening and preserving waterways and marine life will be available. There will also be a tree planted to denote Earth Day 2010.
Children from kindergarten to Grade 8 are welcome to participate. They must be accompanied by an adult. Giveaways and treats will be given to participants. Call Geri Barcheski at 1-732-826-2010 to register, as there is a limit on allowed participants.
The coordinators of Earth Day will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army.
“We encourage participants to bring a can of food to the Earth Day event. As we continue to help our environment, we want to continue to help our community,” said Diaz.
