Around 11:30 p.m. on October 5, 2009 members of the Elizabeth Police Department were summoned to the 1000 block of Fairmount Avenue where they discovered Holmes, 31, in the bedroom of an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

The three suspects, who were being held at Union County Jail, are believed to be members of the Bloods street gang, authorities said.
