Medical Center Symposium Offers Strategies To Help Parents Manage Their Child’s Chronic Illness

LIVINGSTON — Saint Barnabas Medical Center Pediatric Specialty Center will present a symposium for parents named Successfully Managing Your Child’s Chronic Illness: Strategies and Tools to Help Parents Navigate the Challenges.

This program will be offered on Tuesday, May 4, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, 200 South Orange Avenue, Livingston.  The featured speaker will be Mark Paul Faber, M.D., Director of the Division of Pediatric Psychiatry at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Faber is a board-certified child/adolescent and adult psychiatrist.  Joining Faber, are Judy Epstein, MSW, LSW, Melissa Jacobs, MSW, LCSW and Carla Gray, MSW, LSW.  Following Faber’s presentation, there will be a panel discussion with the three social workers along with a question and answer period.

This program will address the issues faced by parents whose child has been diagnosed with a chronic illness.  The program will focus on the following topics:

  • Educational implications
  • Social implications
  • Juggling the needs of other children in the household
  • Importance of a good support structure
  • Resources to help parents navigate the challenges
