Plotkin explained, “Each eighth grader prepared a unique story from their first textbook and illustrated it to guide any reader toward an understandable translation. The eighth graders were then asked to translate another student’s story from sight to a fifth grader.
“Once the eighth graders had completed their work, it was all up to the fifth graders to answer some difficult reading comprehension questions based on the stories they just learned. Throughout the story, only Latin was spoken and the fifth graders all did remarkably!”
