Students To Be Honored For Their Writing Skills

EDISON – Two significant achievements in creative writing have been reported at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in North Edison.

Mariel Kennedy, a sophomore and Watchung resident, has been named a 2010 National Award Winner of The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Mariel’s dramatic script earned her a silver medal from the organization, which judged 165,000 submissions this year from across the nation.

National Award winners and their teachers will be honored at an awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Wednesday, June 9.
Mariel is the daughter of Mr. Charles P. Kennedy and Mrs. Marina P. Kennedy of Watchung.

Marie Vlad, a sophomore and Colonia resident, will be recognized by the New Jersey Council of Teachers of English (NJCTE) on Monday, April 19, for her original short story, “The Roses.” The NJCTE welcomed submissions from public and private schools around the state in grades 9-12 in its annual Student Writing Contest.

Marie is the daughter of Dr. Rosalia Riguerra-Vlad and Mr. Dan Vlad of Colonia.
